WIP

I’m happy to report that due to some Memorial Day weekend travel I was able to make significant progress on the Estelle cardigan!!! It’s starting to actually look something like a sweater, and not just a “scarf” or “dishrag” or “bra” or any other number of knitted items it has resembled to my many onlookers. As novel as the idea of a knitted bra is, it is indeed a sweater I am making! Sorry to disappoint! I’m almost to the ribbing section, so it’s getting pretty exciting!

Day at the Zoo

Another blissful date at the Memphis Zoo. This time I had the privilege of spending it with my coworkers and their children/families! We decided that much needed respite from the hospital was needed, and planned a day at the zoo to enjoy each others’ company without the drama of work! It turned out to be an absolutely GORGEOUS day in Memphis – sunny, a cool breezy 68 degrees – and the animals seemed to enjoy it as well! Although we didn’t see all the animals, the ones we did see put on a great display for us!!

At the Teton Trek exhibit the Memphis Grizzlies – no, not those Grizzlies – were so excited they just couldn’t stop running around! They chased each other, fought, ran around, and jumped in and out of their pool. It was such a diversion to watch them taking pleasure in just being! I took several videos which I wish I could post, but haven’t upgraded my blog yet ūüėČ so you’ll have to settle for some photos.

Here’s an action shot of one of the Grizz splashing around in the pool:

Fun in the pool!

We were also able to see the sea lion show. Those sea lions are pretty darn smart! They have quite a few tricks up their flippers, and the kids and adults alike were wowed by their talents! They were super sweet, too, and blew us some kisses before leaving! Sea Lions having fun for the crowd!

The emu’s made sure to face off for the crowd, too!

Emu times two!

It was a great day, and I am so fortunate to have such a great bunch of co-workers! It was fun to meet spouses and children, and I really hope that we can do this again and make ICU Day at the Zoo a new tradition!

Estelle

I have found the gumption to finally start my first real knitted garment. Just shy of my one year anniversary of learning to knit, I decided it was time to balls up and try it – a cardigan! With a little gentle coaxing from Laura (aka LaLa)¬†at my LYS, I settled on the Estelle cardigan by Melissa LaBarre. I partially chose this because Laura will be knitting it as well, and I may need her help as things get more complicated, but also because there is a KAL with Paula of Knitting Pipeline. I have already reached out several times for advice in the Estelle KAL discussion thread on Ravelry, and have found everyone to be most helpful!!¬† The pattern calls for Lark by Quince¬†& Co., but I am¬†knitting with Berroco Vintage in a lovely purple color. Here’s a picture of my progress so far:

As will all my knitting, things are going slowly. I seem to be acquiring stash much faster than I knit, and since I am moving on temporarily from a sock craze to a cardigan craze my stash is destined to grow as I inevitably start collecting yarn for sweaters. I will try to hold back, but there is just SO MUCH delicious yarn out there! Oh cruel world!!
